VIDEOS

The following are videos taken from various classes and conferences that deal with many of the issues I walk through with clients in counseling sessions.

This video was recorded at the April, 2012 Men’s Conference at Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN.

In this class we went over the new homework assignment, The Conflict Resolution Worksheet.  This is an extended version of the “Understanding an Issue” worksheet that helped us identify the situation, thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and actions in any situation.  The Conflict Resolution Worksheet goes much deeper into exposing blame, family of origin issues relating to our response to the issue, confession, apology, and forgiveness.  The Conflict Resolution Worksheet doesn’t fit every situation, so if you come to a question that doesn’t apply to your situation, just skip that question and move on to the next one.  Below are links to the Conflict Resolution Worksheet and some of the other past assignments in case you need them.

In this class we started getting feedback from people in the class on the “Understand and Issue – Situation through Action” exercise.  I introduced an explanation of how Fear usually leads to control and how control then leads to controlling behaviors.  After discussing that a while and showing some slides that have helped me understand and teach this process, we were able to look at how to take a more positive approach by surrendering our fears to God and the resulting benefits of that.

This is a video of a class taught by Chuck Sugar on Couple Communication and Conflict Resolution for couples.  This class focuses on the Hurts, Losses, & Disappointments Timeline.  The class was willing to share what this assignment was like and how it helped them in different ways.  This is our fifth class on the subject of, “Who we are.”   At the end of this class, the “Understanding an Issue – Situation through Action” homework assignment was discussed and the link is posted below this paragraph.  The goal of this video is to help us begin to understand ourselves (and our partner) in a deeper and more intimate way.  We are a complex combination of our family of origin influences, the hurts, losses, and disappointments we’ve experienced in our lifetime, how our brains work and process information differently, how we handle and process emotions, our beliefs about ourselves, etc.  This class pretty much finished the topic of “Who we are” and we are moving into the very practical understanding of how to use “Who we Are” as we move toward leaning how to communicate and resolve conflicts with our partners in a peaceful manner that is both safe and honoring with the end result being forgiveness, increased intimacy, trust, respect, and peace in the marriage.

Today’s class focuses on the “Emotions” piece of the “Understanding an Issue – Situation through Action” worksheet.  In this class we talk about the differences between how men and women feel and express emotions.  We heard from some examples from men and women on how this is played out in their marriages.

This is a video of a class taught by Chuck Sugar on Couple Communication and Conflict Resolution for couples.  This class focuses on the people in the class and how doing the Genogram assignment has already helped them realize things in their marriage that are heavily influenced (both good and bad) from the influences of their families of origin.  This is our fourth class on the subject of, “Who we are.”   At the end of this class, the Hurts, Losses, Disappointments Timeline homework assignment was discussed and the link is posted below this paragraph. The topic of “Who we are” will most likely be covered over several weeks. This will lead into other classes on how to communicate and resolve conflicts with our partners in a peaceful manner that is both safe and honoring with the end result being forgiveness, increased intimacy, trust, respect, and peace in the marriage.

This is a video of a class taught by Chuck Sugar on Couple Communication and Conflict Resolution for couples.  This is our third class on the subject of, “Who we are.”  People in the class are commenting on the Genogram exercise.  Much of this class is people in the class talking about how doing this exercise helps them understand themselves and their partners better.  For those that didn’t do the homework assignment talked about how much they benefited from just talking about their families of origin and how it affects them…both good and bad.

The goal of this video is to help us begin to understand ourselves (and our partner) in a deeper and more intimate way.  We are going over the dynamics of a family of origin Genogram.  This is like a family tree that looks at our family of origin’s influences on our lives.  We are a complex combination of our family of origin influences, the hurts, losses, and disappointments we’ve experienced in our lifetime, how our brains work and process information differently, how we handle and process emotions, our beliefs about ourselves, our belief in God, our belief in who we are as Christians, how God has created us, etc.  The topic of “Who we are” will most likely be covered over several weeks. This will lead into other classes on how to communicate and resolve conflicts with our partners in a peaceful manner that is both safe and honoring…with the end result being forgiveness, increased intimacy, trust, respect, and peace in our marriages.
